Applications for the National Means Merit Scholarship Examination 2026 are being accepted online by the Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam. Students enrolled in Class VIII during the 2026–2027 academic year will take the screening exam. The state quota is 2,411 scholarships, and the exam will take place on November 28, 2026, at 169 locations around Assam.

Eligibility Criteria of Assam NMMS Exam
Class: The student must be studying in Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session.
School: Students of Government and Provincialised schools under the Department of School Education, Government of Assam will be considered for scholarship selection.
Class VII Marks: Under the NMMSS guidelines, the student should have at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Class VII. The requirement is relaxed by 5% for SC and ST students.
Parental Income: The annual income of the student’s parents from all sources must not exceed ₹3.50 lakh.
Private, JNV, and KV Students: Students of private schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Kendriya Vidyalayas may appear in the examination, but they will not be considered for the scholarship.
Eligibility Summary: A Class VIII student of a Government or Provincialised school in Assam can be considered for the scholarship if the applicable Class VII marks and parental income conditions are met.
Scholarship Details of NMMS 2026
Under the program, Assam has a quota of 2,411 students. From Class IX to Class XII, a chosen student may get ₹12,000 annually, or ₹1,000 per month, subject to the scheme's renewal requirements. The student's bank account receives the scholarship payment via Direct Benefit Transfer.
OTR Registration for NMMS Exam 2026

UDISE Code: Students enrolled in government or provincialized schools are required to enter the accurate UDISE code of the institution they are currently enrolled in.

Examination Fee of NMMS Exam
Payment Method: The examination fee can be paid online after the student submits the application and logs in to the account.

NMMS Examination Fee Exemption
At least the top three eligible pupils whose parents' annual income does not exceed ₹3.50 lakh must be enrolled in every government and provincialized school. Based on Class VII marks or percentage, the Directorate will waive the examination fee for each school's top three qualified pupils.
The top five qualified pupils from each school in the Bodoland Territorial Region and Sixth Schedule Areas whose parents' yearly income is less than ₹3.50 lakh will be covered by the fee exemption. The Inspector of Schools must receive the list of qualified students from the Head of the Institution by October 27, 2026, at the latest.
Note: Even if they are chosen for fee exemption, a student who has already paid the examination cost will not get a refund.

Open the Application Form link from the Important Links section and read the official instructions.
Choose the district and examination centre, then enter the student’s personal, Aadhaar and school details.
Enter the correct UDISE code for the current Government or Provincialised school.
Upload the photograph, signature and applicable certificates in the prescribed format and size.
Review every entry carefully before submission because the submitted form cannot be edited.
Log in with the application ID and password to pay the examination fee, unless the student is covered by the school-based fee exemption.
Download and retain the acknowledgement copy for future use.
